Olivia Morgan, Striving for Impact On and Off the Golf Course

WinWon Scholar Olivia Morgan is an exceptional collegiate golfer with an outstanding academic and service record at Baker University. Olivia’s love for sports started at an early age. A softball player for most of her childhood, she didn’t take up golf until high school. "I started my freshman year and I really could not tell you why I started,” Olivia shared: “My dad had just passed away that summer, so I think I wanted to try something else, to start a different path and just get into something new."

Coming from the team dynamics of softball, it took some time to adjust to playing as an individual, but she got into the swing of things pretty quickly. "Golf taught me so many lessons that I never would have expected to learn.” Olivia spent the next four years honing her skills and upon graduation, she earned a spot on Baker University’s collegiate golf team.

At Baker University, Olivia credits her new coach, Chris Gilbert, for her continued improvement. “He has really been there for me and helped me grow."

Olivia is involved in seemingly everything at Baker. She’s a member of the Psi Chi Honors Society, Vice President of BU’s Association of Student Athletes, and Senate Class President. She has consistently earned her place on the Dean’s List while fostering sportsmanship and enhancing student life campus-wide.

In the classroom, Olivia is pursuing a degree in psychology. She’s focused on clinical social work and hopes to be a resource and positive influence for young people in juvenile detention. "I want to be that person where, once they get out or start a new life, they can come to me,” Olivia reflected: “I want to teach lessons, help, and guide people through their emotions."

Olivia is well on her way to making a meaningful impact. A dedicated member of her community, she regularly organizes fundraisers for the YWCA of Topeka. As a First Tee coach, Olivia combines her love of golf with her passion for psychology and personal growth. "Being able to teach kids who never thought they could play, and seeing their faces when they hit a ball or make a putt is amazing." She hopes young golfers walk away with a newfound sense of confidence in addition to a love for the sport.

All of us at WinWon are excited to honor Olivia as a WinWon Scholar for her dedication to golf, academics, and community. We have no doubt that she will continue to make a meaningful impact, on and off the golf course.
